Volkswagen Polo (AW) Tuning & Performance Parts

The Polo GTI AW is already a quick little thing out of the box, but there’s plenty of room to make it feel more your own. At Awesome GTI, you’ll find Polo GTI AW mods for the way the car looks and drives, all selected specifically for the AW.

If you’ve been searching for VW Polo mods more generally, this is where things get more specific. Our AW range helps you find parts that actually suit the GTI, with fitment information on each product so you know what you’re looking at before you order.

Polo GTI AW Mods: Bodystyling and Handling

The AW takes really well to a bit of exterior work. The Maxton Design Full Body Kit is a VW Polo body kit designed specifically for the Mk6 facelift, giving the car a much sharper look. If you want to add to the rear as well, the Maxton Design Rear Side Splitters are made for the same car.

If you’re looking at Polo GTI AW lowering springs, the H&R Height Adjustable Spring Kit gives you more control over the ride height while retaining the standard dampers. It’s a handy option if you want the car sitting lower without moving straight into a full coilover setup.

Brakes are easy to overlook until you start asking more from the car. The V-Maxx 330mm Big Brake Kit gives the Polo GTI AW a larger front brake setup if the standard system no longer suits what you’re doing with it.

Why Polo GTI AW Owners Choose Awesome GTI

Awesome GTI has been working on VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda cars since 1989, and the Polo GTI is exactly the sort of car we like getting stuck into. If you’re planning Polo AW tuning, we can help you work out what suits the car before you start ordering parts.

For compatible pre-2021 2.0 TSI models, the RacingLine Stage 1 Remap gives you a software upgrade designed specifically for the Polo GTI AW. If you’re not sure whether your car is covered, speak to the Awesome GTI team and we can check before anything goes ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Polo GTI AW reliable?

The Polo GTI AW uses Volkswagen's 2.0 TSI engine, which comes from the EA888 engine family also found in other VW Group performance cars. How reliable an individual car is will depend heavily on its age, servicing and any previous modifications, so we wouldn't give every AW a blanket reliability rating. If you're buying one to modify, a good service history gives you a much better place to start.

What is a Stage 1 remap for the Polo GTI AW?

A Stage 1 remap changes the software controlling the 2.0 TSI to increase power and torque without requiring major hardware changes. For the 200 bhp Polo GTI AW, the RacingLine software available through Awesome GTI is quoted at 233 bhp and 298 lb ft of torque. If you're new to remapping, the Awesome GTI team can also explain what the software changes and whether it suits your car.

What does AW mean in a VW Polo?

AW is the model code commonly used for the sixth-generation Polo introduced in 2017. This generation replaced the previous Polo 6R/6C and was the first Polo to use Volkswagen's MQB A0 architecture. You'll often see AW used on parts listings because it helps distinguish products for this generation from those designed for earlier Polos.

Is a Polo GTI faster than a Golf GTI?

In standard form, the equivalent Golf GTI generally has the edge. The original Polo GTI AW produced 200 PS and Volkswagen quoted 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. A 2018 Golf GTI Performance produced 245 PS and covered the same sprint in 6.2 seconds. Both use 2.0-litre turbocharged engines, though, so the difference isn't simply down to engine size. The Polo is the smaller car, which gives it its own character rather than making it a junior version of the Golf.
