DSG Gearbox Service
A DSG gearbox service is one of those jobs that's easy to put off and expensive to regret. There’s two computer-controlled clutches working in perfect sync, swapping gears faster than any human hand could manage. That precision only holds when the oil is clean. Dirty gearbox oil thickens and loses its ability to lubricate properly. The clutches run at fine tolerances, and once contaminated oil gets into the mix, gear changes become hesitant and the gearbox starts to overheat. Leave it long enough and the clutches burn out. A DSG service is cheap compared to what happens when you skip it, trust us.

How Often Does a VW DSG Gearbox Need Servicing?
As a general rule, every 40,000 miles, though this varies depending on which gearbox your car has. The DQ250 and DQ500 are typically on a 40,000 mile schedule, while the DQ381 runs to 60,000 miles. If your car has been remapped or gets a harder time than average, we'd recommend halving that interval. A Stage 1 Golf R on a DQ381 is better served at 30,000 miles rather than waiting the full distance.

We've been servicing DSG gearboxes on VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda cars since 1989 from our workshop in Irlam, Manchester. We use genuine parts and genuine oil, no shortcuts. How much is a DSG gearbox service?
It depends on which gearbox your car has and what the service requires. Some need an oil change only, others need gear oil and internal filters on top of that. How is a DSG gearbox service carried out?
It starts with draining the old oil and replacing it with fresh fluid to the correct specification for your gearbox. A new filter goes in where applicable. On some gearboxes there are internal filters on the valve body that need attention at certain intervals too. Then comes the bit most general garages skip: resetting the learned values and clutch adaptations using diagnostic software. Without that reset the gearbox doesn't know the oil is fresh and can't recalibrate accordingly. That step is non-negotiable as far as we're concerned.
