Fastest RS3 in Europe

Fastest RS3 in Europe

28th Sep 2020

Yes, you read that right! After building the fastest Audi TTRS in Europe we set out to break the same record with the popular Audi RS3 pushing every limit possible in getting it there on a stock engine block.

The 2.5 litre TFSI 5-cylinder engine from Audi is by far one of the most popular amongst tuners, the engine is a masterpiece which allows us to tune it to blistering performance all while keeping it safe and reliable.

But by no means was the task ahead going to be easy, the record was set at an impressive 9.63 seconds on a ¼ mile. So, when our customer Dan Jacobs approached us with this project, we knew our work would be cut out for us and every limit was going to be pushed.

We will not be talking about every single modification in detail, but a full list of the modifications is in the video hosted on our YouTube Channel and a link will be added below.

So, to start the build, this would be running a bigger turbo specifically the SRM GTX35 Turbocharger with APR stage 3 software and a TVS stage 3 gearbox tune to increase clamping pressure to avoid clutch slip and faster gear changes.

An APR intake to greatly improve the engines breathing capability, an SRM Throttle Inlet to maximize flow into the plenum chamber. A SRM downpipe, APR intercooler to keep those intake temps as low as possible, AWE Switchpath exhaust, Eventuri Turbo Inlet pipe, Zeitronix Ethanol Gauge, Iroz DSG catch can, uprated 980cc injectors and the list goes on.

Safe to say no expense was spared into getting this beast ready, After the build was complete with E85 race fuel the car was running around 730HP. Now it was about getting the car ready for the dragstrip.

When attempting to beat a record, every gram counts and every 1/100th of a second could make the difference in being the fastest. So, the car went through a very hectic diet, everything that was not needed was stripped out. The front brake set up changed to Wilwood small brakes which took off around 18kg of weight on each side and then to finish it off we fitted some Hoosier drag tyres.

The day was upon us, SantaPod raceway was where the car would make its record attempt. When we arrived, it was a beautiful and warm day which isn’t good for a car as it makes the air density thinner and a little harder for it to breath and stay cool.

After a few attempts the fastest time of the day which we would later find out was set, at a fantastic 9.7 quarter mile it was already the second fastest RS3 in the country. But we don’t do second, so we kept on pushing and after some 20 runs the day kept getting warmer and it starting to become apparent it wouldn’t be today that we would beat the record. So back to the drawing board it was.

We weren’t gone for long, Crail was upon us in a few weeks and our fantastic Head Technician Simon decided to change up the brake set up on the rear with smaller tyres. So the rears were now also running Wilwood small brakes and Hoosier tyres paired with 15inch rota grid wheels all round.

Once again, we arrived at Crail in Scotland after what can only be described as a hectic few days. The car started off strong with a few runs in the 9.8’s and we could only assume this was due to the track being a little damp for the rain earlier on.

After midday, once the track started drying up and more cars had their fair share of runs, we set out once more. As the tension built around the start line, we waited patiently as the smoke settled from the burnout. The entire crowd paused for a moment and everyone’s eyes turned to the lights waiting for them to go green, as the rev’s built up… lights hit green! And the wheels hooked up instantly and it just disappeared into the distance, sometimes you just know when it’s a quick time but we turned to the timer just to confirm and there it was, 9.62 seconds at a 147mph! We did it!
