Frequently asked questions
What is an APR remap?
An APR remap is an ECU software upgrade developed specifically for VW Group engines including Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT/CUPRA, Skoda, and Porsche. Rather than modifying the factory calibration, APR writes the software from scratch for each engine, which gives it a different character to a generic remap. Power and torque go up across the rev range and the car generally feels sharper and more responsive as a result.
What is an APR ECU upgrade?
An APR ECU upgrade is the same thing as an APR remap. The ECU is the engine control unit, the brain of the engine management system. APR replaces the factory software in the ECU with their own calibration, which is where the power gains and improved drivability come from. Some applications involve a full ECU replacement unit rather than a software flash, which is what the hardware ECU upgrade products cover.
How much does an APR remap cost?
APR software pricing varies depending on the engine and the stage. Entry level Stage 1 remaps on four cylinder engines start from around £450 and go up from there depending on the application. V8 and V10 software sits considerably higher.
Is an APR remap worth it?
For a VAG car, yes. APR software has a strong track record across a wide range of engines and the quality of the calibration shows in how the car drives. It's not the cheapest option in the market but the development behind it justifies the price. If you want a remap that's been properly thought through for your specific engine rather than a generic tune, APR is consistently one of the better choices.
