Performance German Day Report

22nd Jul 2019

Awesome at Performance German Day 2019

A brand new event for 2019, PGD promised to deliver some of the best German cars in the UK, combined with big trade support and an open pit lane track format – and with Awesome as headline sponsors, it didn’t disappoint

By 10am Castle Combe was bustling and the caliber of cars on display had to be seen to be believed. Every performance model of German car seemed to be catered for and it was great to see Audi RS6s parked next to Porsche GT3 RSs, C63 AMGs with BMW M2s and dozens of Golf Rs, S3s and more. From 1980s VWs and Audis, through to the latest supercars, and everything in between, there really was something for everyone.

As lead sponsors Awesome pulled out all the stops for this event. Our huge stand included our APR truck and a great selection of demo cars, including the 9.3sec TT RS, our freshly liveried Dinan M2 Competition, the iconic Mk1 Golf and the UK’s quickest RS6, as well as KW Suspensions and Scorpion bringing cars to the stand. Next to us were our friends at Racingline Performance with their huge race truck, showcasing another fine array of VWs and Audis – it really did look impressive.

For us this event was all about meeting customers old and new, and we really enjoyed chatting to people, answering their technical questions and giving out some quality goodie bags.

KW brought along their ace test driver Marc Kemp, who took our Dinan M2 out for some blisteringly quick laps. It was a great opportunity to show what the upgrades can do, with every passenger leaving the stand looking mighty impressed. And the hard-worked M2 didn’t miss a beat.

By 12.30pm, everyone took a break from the track sessions and found a spot to watch the lunchtime entertainment. Trig Bishop and his crew took to the circuit in a selection of highly tuned BMW drift cars and put on a fantastic display of sideways driving. Session one was cut short by a crash, but this allowed our special ‘30 Years of Being Awesome’ track session to start early.

We’d hand-picked ten of the best cars to go out for some fast laps, which included a rear-wheel drive Mk2 Golf with a 2.7 biturbo S4 engine, a Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS, RE Performance in a Huracan Performante (it’s a VAG underneath!), plus Ramair’s 600bhp 135i and YouTuber Jamie Officially Gassed OG in hid 500bhp Mk7 Golf R – not forgetting our very own TT RS of course! We had a fantastic time putting the TT to the test on its first track session.

As mentioned, some of the UK’s biggest YouTubers were also in attendance, including Jamie from Officially Gassed OG and Ricky from LLF, who were both filming for their channels. They’ve both asked to film some of our demo cars for their channels – so watch this space!

Car of the show went to Jamie Turner of Turner Race Developments with his stunning Porsche 964. The Bastos-liveried car ticked all the boxes and drew many admirers all day on the Top 10 display. Club of the show went to the Welsh and Southern R32 Owners, who brought a great selection of tuned R32 Golfs as well as a few rare R36s.

The Show and Shine competition was a tough one to judge, but three winners were eventually selected. In third place was Matthew Perkins with his Audi S2, while Kieran Brady took second with his Immaculate Caddy. But the top spot went to Christian Gale’s Mk5 Golf GTI which turbo fan wheels and a stunning interior. A bonus award went to Tyler Robertson’s Mk2 Golf with R32 engine, courtesy of our sponsors Nanolex – well done to all of the winners!

Awesome’s Mark Ash said, “I’d like to congratulate DRIVEN Automotive Media and Castle Combe Circuit for putting on such a great first event. The trade support was very impressive and the standard of cars very high. I’m really looking forward to next year.”

A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this event such a success, especially the car clubs, other traders and of course the hard-working Awesome team.

Awesome will return, even bigger and even better next year.
